THE FILM
A relaxed summer wedding at Shustoke Barn, Warwickshire
Lauren and George’s wedding at Shustoke Barn was full of personality, emotion and energy from start to finish.
From the quieter moments early in the day through to the surprise sax performance, ABBA first dance and live Irish music later in the evening, there was so much happening that made their wedding completely their own.
As their wedding videographer, my aim was to capture more than just how everything looked. I wanted their finished film to bring back the atmosphere, movement, voices and feeling of the day.

THE VENUE
Wedding videography at Shustoke Barn
Shustoke Barn is an 18th-century red-brick wedding venue set in the Warwickshire countryside near Coleshill.
With its exposed beams, brickwork, courtyard and surrounding countryside, it gives a wedding film loads of variety without needing to take the couple away from their guests for long periods. It also has a really distinctive atmosphere inside the barn, which works brilliantly on film.
Lauren and George’s wedding was a perfect example of why I enjoy filming here. There were plenty of emotional moments, but also loads of movement, laughter and energy throughout the day.
THE CEREMONY
Capturing the ceremony
The ceremony is one of the most important parts of any wedding film. It is not just about filming the couple standing at the front. It is about capturing the anticipation beforehand, guest reactions, the entrance, vows, rings, little looks between the couple and the reactions from the people closest to them.
Lauren and George also had a story connected to their wedding rings, which gave this part of the day another personal element to include within their film.
These are the moments where video offers something completely different to photography. Being able to hear the voices and see the reactions happening in real time brings everything back in a completely different way.
THE IN-BETWEEN
The moments between the big moments
Some of my favourite footage from weddings normally comes from the moments that were never planned. Guests talking outside. Someone laughing in the background. Friends reacting to something happening across the room. The couple having a few seconds together when nobody else is paying attention.
These small moments help make a wedding film feel like the actual day rather than a collection of staged shots. That was a big part of Lauren and George’s wedding.
COUPLE FOOTAGE
Couple footage at Shustoke Barn
Shustoke Barn gives you plenty of options for cinematic couple footage. The courtyard, brickwork and surrounding countryside all create different looks while staying close to the main wedding.
I like to keep this part of the day relaxed. There is some direction when needed, but the aim is never to turn the wedding into a film shoot. A short amount of time together is normally enough to create the footage needed for the cinematic parts of the finished wedding film before getting the couple back to their guests.
THE SURPRISE
A surprise sax performance
One of the standout moments of Lauren and George’s wedding was the surprise sax performance. The atmosphere changed instantly. Guests got involved and the whole wedding moved into a completely different gear.
These moments are exactly why I love wedding videography. You are not only preserving what happened. You are preserving how everyone reacted to it. The sound, movement and energy are what make those memories come back when the couple watches their film years later.
THE SPEECHES
Speeches
Speeches are another part of the wedding where video becomes really valuable. Photographs can capture the reactions, but film preserves the words themselves: the jokes, the stories, the voices of family and friends, and all of the reactions happening around the room.
For Lauren and George, the speeches became another important part of the story of their wedding film rather than simply something that happened between dinner and the evening party.
THE FIRST DANCE
An ABBA first dance
Lauren and George chose ABBA for their first dance, which suited the atmosphere of their wedding perfectly. Once the first dance started, the energy of the evening quickly built.
The first dance is always an important moment to capture, but I also look beyond the couple. Parents watching, friends singing along and guests joining the dance floor all help tell the complete story of the moment.
THE EVENING
Live Irish music and the evening party
The live Irish music brought another level of energy to the evening. By this point, everyone was fully into the celebrations.
This is where wedding films can really come alive. Fast-moving footage, guest reactions, dancing and all the little chaotic moments of a proper wedding party help balance the quieter and more emotional parts from earlier in the day. Lauren and George’s wedding had that balance perfectly.
WHY IT WORKS
Why Shustoke Barn works so well for wedding films
Shustoke Barn is a brilliant venue for wedding videography because there are so many different environments within one location: the red-brick exterior, the atmospheric barn, the courtyard, the surrounding Warwickshire countryside, and then a completely different feel once the evening celebrations begin.
It means the finished wedding film can have loads of visual variety while the couple still gets to spend the majority of their wedding with their guests. That fits perfectly with the way I like to work.
MY APPROACH
Natural wedding videography
My approach to wedding filmmaking is simple. Your wedding should still feel like your wedding. I do not want couples spending hours repeating moments for the camera or feeling like they are on a film set.
I will give some direction when we need it for couple footage, but most of the day is captured naturally as it happens: the nerves, the laughter, the speeches, the voices, the quiet moments, and the madness once the dance floor gets going. Those are the things I want couples to experience again when they watch their wedding film.
